The
name Himachal Pradesh literally translates to "In the lap of the
Himalayas". Shimla, the "Queen of Hills" is the
capital of Himachal Pradesh. The most widely spoken language here is
Hindi. Both the Ganges and Indus basins receive water from Himachal
Pradesh.

Himachal
Pradesh is located in the western part of the Himalayas. Regions in
this state have an elevation of about 300 7000 meters above sea
level. The state is surrounded by Jammu & Kashmir in the North,
Punjab in the west, Haryana and Uttarakhand in the south. It shares
international borders with Tibet Autonomous Region in its east.Major

in the state.
Shimla
is the capital and the largest city in the state. Dharamsala, a
popular buddhist pilgrim destination is also the home of the current
Dalai Lama. Kullu and Manali are tourist destinations with abundant

Himachal
Pradesh is loaded with natural beauty and scenic locations that make
it a tourist's delight.Shimla, one of the most beautiful hill
stations in India has many tourist attractions. The Ridge, Potters
hill, Jakhoo Hills, Mall Road, Tara Devi and the British era
buildings are famous. Bir is the home to a large Tibetian community
and beautiful Buddhist monasteries. Dalhousie is a hill resort that
has retained its old world Victorian charms.Kullu Valley, situated
on the banks of River Beas, is famous for the apple orchards, ancient
temples, festivals, woolen apparels and handicrafts. Kullu and Manali
are buzzing hill stations that are flocked by tourists from all over
the country during summer.
Trekking
is a very common sight here. There are beautiful passages to trek in
the state. Some of them are as follows:Baralacha-Chandratal trek,
BirBhangal Trek, Wild Trek in Kullu Valley, Malana history trek,

to Reach
Air:
The
nearest International airport is in Delhi, from where regular flights
ply to important International destinations. There are 3 domestic
airports in Himachal Pradesh: Shimla, Gaggal and Bhuntar airports.
There are regular flights that connect Shimla to Delhi.
Rail:
Railway tracks are not accessible in all parts of the state. One
railway line from Pathankot to Jogindernagar connects Punjab with the
state. Another narrow gauge railway line connects Shimla with Kalka.
There are trains from Kalka to other major cities in India.
Road:
The
hilly regions of the state make roadways the most preferred
option to commute from one place to other. There are 8 National
Highways and 19 State Highways with regular buses plying from the
state to all the cities and hill stations.
